Feature this: your grandfather sits you down and relates a long tale of Mormons on the western frontier. There are bad guys and Indians and gunplay and a love story. Your grandfather drones on in low, slow cadences, offering only minor distinctions among the voices of the characters. His voice has little expression in it though he stumbles occasionally over a word, but the story is interesting and well written, and, after all, one is not in a movie theater. The story ends, and you’re relaxed and satisfied. You’ve heard one of the best works of a classic Western author. D.A.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: MAR 96]
