PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE

The difference between science and the philosophy of science is the difference between what we know and how we know it. Professor Kasser takes listeners carefully through an examination of how scientists come to form their worldviews. He examines different modes of thought and how they reflect their respective periods and states of scientific knowledge. For example, he shows how Einstein's special theory of relativity not only revolutionized physics, but also revolutionized philosophy by showing that space and time, previously thought immutable, were variables in an equation, not constants. Kasser uses dozens of simple analogies to illustrate his points, so a thorough knowledge of science is not necessary to understand his presentation.
