ALABAMA MOON

Nick Landrum portrays 10-year-old Moon, who's been raised by a Vietnam vet survivalist father who trusts no one. Landrum's tones are convincing whether he's using the accent of rural Alabama locals or showing Moon's mixed feelings of conviction and confusion as he faces the world alone. After his father dies of a broken leg, rather than seeing a doctor, Moon follows directions and buries him in the woods. He's made his own clothes, killed his own food, but how is he supposed to get himself to homesteaders in Alaska as he promised his father? Self-sufficiency's one thing, but as he tastes his first sweet roll and rides in a car, Moon wonders if he should he believe everything his father told him.
