As Wilson explores Lincoln's oral history and the events surrounding his romantic entanglements, periods of depression, and development as an accomplished politician, Barrett Whitener provides an insightful reading. He employs just enough change in cadence and tone to allow the listener to immediately recognize quoted passages without interrupting the narrative flow. His pace throughout is easy to follow, and he's quite adept at interjecting the perfect emotional tone, an important quality in a biography that explores the subject's emotional life.
