This introduction to the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation is somewhat biased towards the Catholic perspective. One never knew that the Inquisition was so, relatively, benign. Madden, a professor at a Jesuit institution, dismisses Protestant theological arguments and is very quick to present Protestant political failings. Madden's reading is sufficient. While he is not as animated as other scholars that this reviewer has heard in this series, the professor is an experienced lecturer. He quite easy to understand and to follow, but more than once is hesitant in his delivery. M.T.F. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/ NOV 07]
