Sometimes it's best to leave accents unattempted, and that may be the case in this first mystery by bestselling author Linda Greenlaw. Narrator Sandra Burr reads most of the story, set on a fictional Maine island, perfectly well, but her version of the famous Downeast accent would be better toned down--a lot. That aside, her characterization of ex-cop Jane Bunker, who has moved to a quiet Maine town for a fresh start, is lively and believable. And her upbeat narration of what happens when Jane stumbles on a dead body is entertaining. This is a light, pleasant book, well suited for vacation listening.
