Featuring Australian Detective Joe Faraday, ONE UNDER begins with the discovery of a body—evidence of a brutal murder. The book's pace then slows considerably as Hurley provides listeners with a somewhat dry introduction to police investigative procedures. Soon, though, the plot takes off, and the story flies. The result is an intense, gripping, albeit dark, novel, which is not for the faint of heart. Tim Pepper's narration matches the story’s intensity. At first, his Australian accent requires concentration, but eventually, like Hurley's prose, Pepper's style grows on the listener, and the initial accent problem seems to melt away.
