FIONA'S LUCK

To keep the big folk from soaking up all the luck that is so plentiful in Ireland, the king of the leprechauns has hidden the luck away. As a result, every aspect of big folk farm life is now failing. Timothy Reynolds's crisp, nuanced narration has just the right Irish touch. He tells of Fiona, "a woman of wit" who understands that something must be done and sets out to trick the king into sharing the luck. Reynolds's pacing gives young listeners time to guess at Fiona's plan. This original tale, full of folk traditions, is a pleasure to hear. One of the discs provides page-turn signals.
