Spanning Dick Cheney's life from birth until 2007, WEEKLY STANDARD writer Hayes concentrates on the character of the man while at the same time dealing with his life and the political events in which he has been involved. Cheney is often accused of being secretive while, in actuality, he just doesn't like the limelight, the author asserts, among many other things. Narrator Alan Sklar proceeds in a slow, deliberate manner. His pleasant baritone conveys the information while he himself somehow disappears. He shades his narration for various well-known personalities as they appear, with varying success. When he quotes Cheney, though, one would swear that the vice president is in the room.
