When author and narrator Caroline Myss starts crying within the first five minutes of this audiobook, one realizes this isn't an ordinary production. Myss is impassioned and honest about her belief that America was founded by cosmic mystics whose enlightened ideals have been squandered by a misaligned political system and an "unconscious" populace. Part U.S. history text, part New Age manifesto, this is a program that's hard to take seriously, especially when Myss casually dismisses slavery and Native American genocide because they don't fit neatly into her cosmic vision of America. Even Myss's entertaining delivery can't salvage her chaotic attempt to apply her philosophy of a "sacred contract" to a nation. Her work is better suited to the self-help genre than the political genre. J.T. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/ MAY 08]
