As the year 2012 approaches, interest grows in this fateful date, which marks the end of the Mayan calendar. Author and narrator John Major Jenkins separates the historical facts from the New Age hoopla surrounding the "end of time." Jenkins's narration style sounds like a college lecture--one with interesting subject matter but a less-than-entertaining delivery. While his knowledge of Mayan culture and beliefs is vast and filled with fascinating insights, he fails to create a compelling narrative to engage the listener. Still, if you ignore the book's didactic tone, you will learn a lot about Mayan culture, the Mayan calendar, and the meanings behind the year 2012.
