Rachel Bavidge does justice to this bawdy tale of Charlotte, an orphan who learns to make her living as a prostitute in nineteenth-century Copenhagen and then finds herself in 21st-century London. A conniver and entrepreneur, she and her companion, Fru Schleswig, a grotesque woman she cares for, find more than they bargained for when they take on a cleaning job for a fine lady. Seamlessly performing the Cockney slang of Charlotte, as well as Lady Crack's refined speech, Bavidge adds realism to the curious plot.
