This detailed examination of the Duke University rape case, with its false accusations, wrongful indictments of three lacrosse players for a nonexistent crime, and prosecutorial malfeasance, is given Dick Hill's usual skilled, careful treatment. He doesn't get much of a chance to dramatize voices, but he does provide nuanced interpretations of, say, a child or someone in tears, when called for. (He's less effective with a British accent.) Though the account is heavily factual, it's also polemical, sometimes exaggeratedly so, and Hill subtly weights his voice to give every nuance of emotion. Though padded with unnecessary detail and repetition, the text is serviceable--it gets the job done. Hill goes well beyond that. W.M. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 08]
