THE PEOPLE AND THE BALLOT A History of American Party Politics

by | Read by Joshua Kaplan

History • 7 hrs. • Audio Program • © 2007

Professor Kaplan provides an overview of party politics, its benefits and dangers, from the founding of the republic until now. Kaplan speaks quietly and smoothly, coming across as genial and intelligent. His manner, phrasing, and intonation recall the presentations of Garrison Keillor in his "Writer's Almanac" radio spots. Kaplan gives a generally cogent presentation of sometimes complicated material, though at times he wanders or becomes repetitive. His straightforward manner does not demand attention, so listeners will need to stay focused. It's worthwhile to do so; the material is interesting in itself, and important in shedding light on where we are now and how we got here. A booklet supplements the course.
