When retired Detective Inspector Frank Elder is persuaded to help an acquaintance whose sister has disappeared, he quickly finds that the case resembles the first case of his career. When the disappearance turns to murder, Frank is tapped to help his former colleagues solve the crime. All the while, he must deal with the needs of his ex-wife and estranged teenaged daughter. Gordon Griffin does a fine job voicing many of the characters, including an emotionally restrained Elder, a seductive female art curator, and a snobbish professor. Griffin has a tendency to insert hesitations mid-sentence in the narration, which can be disconcerting. But his baritone is pleasant, and the traditional British cop mystery is a diverting listen.
