The four stories on this CD range from solid to pretty close to great. Donald Davis is a masterful storyteller. He blends a leisurely pace with a Southern accent to evoke the feel of bygone days when there was all the time in the world to listen to a story. The details about his childhood pranks clearly still live for him in his heart (more even than in memory), and his affection for old friends and his family is evident. While some of the stories are so long (twenty minutes plus) that children's attention might waver, the content of all Davis's stories is family friendly. The only weakness in this collection is that its contents seem a bit arbitrary. G.T.B. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 08]
