Henry Cloud attempts two things with this book: a response to Rhonda Byrne's occult-influenced work THE SECRET and a further discussion of the spiritual side of the Christian walk (on which he has written a number of works). This book tries to be transparent, using psychological jargon to inform the listener of how THE SECRET stacks up—or, more often, doesn't stack up—to scripture. In doing so, Cloud relies on embarrassingly dumbed-down vernacular, such as "the Creator has a thing for you," to make the book accessible. And, although it’s plain that Cloud is an accomplished speaker, his sibilant “s” detracts from the narration. S.M.M. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2009]
