Stacy Keach, in the Rod Serling role, effectively introduces these 10 “Twilight Zone” episodes, adapted for radio by horror pro Dennis Etchison. The technical quality is high; music, taken from the original show, is atmospheric, and sound effects are used sparingly but well. The acting quality varies; it’s always professional, no actors are bad, but some are more convincing than others. Unfortunately, some of the stories are only partially updated and retain the feel of the ’50s and ’60s. And some of surprise effects meant for a visual medium don’t come off aurally. For instance, in the classic “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” listeners can’t see the human figure on the wing of the airplane. But, overall, this is an entertaining program, and fans will appreciate it.
