Several years ago, Melanie Falick, author of popular knitting books, decided to interview all kinds of fiber-loving people. The result is a charming collection of portraits of America 's shepherds, dyers, spinners, and knitters. Falick's writing is quiet, and at first Christine Marshall sounds too lively for the almost passive prose. But soon, the writing in this abridgment tightens, and Marshall's phrasing and tone settle down.
