This production features seven international animal stories. The tales include a variety of characters--from an African tortoise, to an Indian elephant, to a Guatemalan cricket. Many stories will be new to listeners, and their freshness is enhanced by short musical introductions, each featuring an instrument that suggests the story's cultural backdrop. (Much of the music is provided by Laura Hall, who takes up the koto, penny whistle, accordion, and marimba, among other instruments.) The tales themselves are told by a variety of storytellers who use their distinctive styles and voices to convey a sense of the cultures their stories are from. Well-told stories, original music, and a variety of talented storytellers combine to make this a production that will enhance any child's listening library.
