"The Slide" is a serial radio drama that originally aired in 1966. Until recently, it's been very difficult to find. Written by veteran "Doctor Who" scribe Victor Pemberton, this is a science fiction disaster epic much like the monster films of the 1950s. Earthquakes followed by mud slides that move in unexpected directions endanger the populace, and scientists are the only ones who can help. The actors are all reminiscent of the period. At times, they're too animated, at times, wooden. The scientists are confident and all-knowing, at least when it counts. And there's another "Doctor Who" connection: Roger Delgado, one of the actors who played The Master, stars. S.D.D. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2008]
