MAGIC TREE HOUSE, BOOKS 38 & 39 Monday with a Mad Genius, Dark Day in the Deep Sea

These two stories in Osborne's well-researched educational series introduce children to the world of Leonardo da Vinci, and then to the wonders (and creatures) of the deep sea, as Jack and Annie continue their search for the secret of happiness. Osborne's distinctive voice first ushers children to Italy and the world of da Vinci. Jack and Annie get to be apprentices and so glimpse the odd nature of creative genius. In the second story, Jack and Annie explore the deep sea, boarding the first floating science laboratory. Much of each story unfolds through Jack and Annie's dialogue, which Osborne delivers with precision and consistent characterizations. Osborne also creates a pleasing variety of additional voices, including those of da Vinci and the ship's crew, which fans of this series will appreciate.
