HUMAN ANATOMY The Beauty of Form and Function

by | Read by John K. Young

Contemporary Culture • 7 hrs. • Audio Program • © 2008

In the first part of this audio program Professor Young's lectures, which give overviews of the human body and address the skeletal and muscular systems, are first-rate. They’re so full of analogies, well-chosen images, and suggestions on how people can find these parts on their own bodies that they might serve as examples of how to express complex material in lecture form. However, in the later lectures Young focuses on the more subtle or hidden systems, such as the endocrine glands. There the difficulty of discussing systems and biochemical interactions without visual aides is underscored. Despite Young's steady pace; friendly tone; frequent jokes, and easy, enthusiastic delivery, these later lectures are not as strong.
