David Bauckham gives an expert narration of this super-complicated thriller cum police procedural. The plot revolves around two brutal and kinky murders in the seaside resort of Brighton. Bauckham handles every conceivable variety of British accent, male and female voices, and even plausibly renders the inexpert English of a Munich policeman. There are some scary episodes in the narrative, and Bauckham’s reading carries the terror convincingly, without exaggerating it. Listeners will "solve" the mystery before the police, which is what the author intends. This leaves them knowing that bad things are going to happen and hoping that the police will find out in time to avert complete disaster. And they do, of course. Just barely. R.E.K.
