THE PURE IN HEART

Steven Pacey's impressive narration leads us into the heart of this atmospheric mystery, the second in a series about Simon Serrailler, detective chief inspector of the Lafferton CID. In this one, a 9-year-old boy is abducted as he waits for his ride to school, convulsing the quiet cathedral town. Subplots involving Serrailler's family and various townspeople add to the complexity of the story. Pacey beautifully brings to life a wide range of characters, using accent and intonation to help listeners understand personality and relationships. He also paces the many conversations realistically. From exhausted late-night conference between colleagues to the seductive persuasions of a small-time crime boss--we hear, and we enjoy.
