Miller spent nearly 20 years as an advisor to presidents on Middle East issues, particularly the Arab-Israeli conflict. His book touches on historical events but concentrates on personalities and events from the time of Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger forward. Miller both praises and critiques such central figures as Jimmy Carter and Yitzhak Rabin. William Hughes, a professor of political science, narrates with impeccable pronunciation and subdued passion. His voice is midrange, a little higher than the pitch of most male narrators, and he reads a little more rapidly, imparting to his performance a sense of urgency that draws in the listener.
