SHARPE'S GOLD

by | Read by William Gaminara

Historical Fiction • 8 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1981

Bernard Cornwell's Napoleonic War hero, Captain Richard Sharpe of the British infantry, finds himself ordered by General Wellington to capture a treasure of Spanish gold in Portugal. Others seek the gold as well, and its glitter ignites a treacherous conflict in every chapter. Like Sharpe’s men, narrator William Gaminara speaks every dialect of the British Isles, including a little Gaelic. His Spanish and French may sound corny, but it's all in good fun and helps turn an action novel into memorable entertainment. The author composes with clever turns of phrase, and Gaminara's strong characters make them all work. For casual listeners, his gaudy personalities help "uncomplicate" a complicated story. Be aware that this audiobook contains human mutilation and animal cruelty, as well as romance and deception. J.A.H. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2009]
