Former Miami homicide detective Jane Bunker hopes for an easier life as deputy sheriff of a coastal town in Maine. But that’s not to be. Soon Bunker suspects murder in the disappearance of a local fisherman. International drug trafficking collides with local politics to send her on a watery chase to find the killer. Sound effects mimicking marine radio conversations help listeners feel like they, too, are out to sea. Sandra Burr shifts skillfully through a collection of characters ranging from a sassy waitress to a drunken sea captain. However, Jane herself sounds a bit dowdy, a characteristic that clashes with the sexual friskiness she exhibits when a handsome scientist helps the investigation.
