AT ANY COST Jack Welch, General Electric and the Pursuit of Profit

by | Read by David Ackroyd

Business & Finance • 6 hrs. • Abridged • © 1999

O' Boyle would likely be pleased with this reading by Ackroyd. The work is critical, in particular, of the transformation of General Electric since Jack Welch, the present CEO, assumed leadership of that monstrously large corporation. The audiobook also criticizes in general American businesses that look only to the bottom line of the next quarter. The cynicism in Ackroyd's voice matches the acid-tipped pen of the book's author, and his reading displays the emotion in the author. While the listener may somtimes tire of the author's critical remarks, Ackroyd's strong tenor voice is never tiresome. It is always clear and measured.
