ZEN AND NOW On the Trail of Robert Pirsig and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

by | Read by Buck Schirner

Biography & Memoir • 10 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2008

Author Mark Richardson retraces the original route traveled by Robert Pirsig in his book ZEN AND THE ART OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE (1974). Richardson heads west for the purpose of detailing every sight described in Pirsig's bestseller. Fans of the original will enjoy revisiting the trip, as well as an interview with the author and updates on his life. Narrator Buck Schirner's timbre sounds like that of a gritty, adventurous motorcycle fan who would take to the road, but one could easily fall asleep at the wheel listening to his flat performance. Schirner sounds close to retirement age—his voice is inappropriate for Richardson, who makes his trek days before turning 40. A more youthful-sounding performance would have been a better fit for the mid-life journey described in ZEN AND NOW. J.T. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2008]
