THE LONG SURRENDER

by | Read by Ken Parker

History • 12.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1985

This popular history has a "you-are-there" quality, which makes for good listening. It concentrates on the post-Civil War tribulations of President of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and a number of others, including Virginia Clay, Judah P. Benjamin and Davis's long-suffering wife. Ken Parker's narration is both crisp and kind. His mature voice sounds much like that of Norman Dietz, but he reads more rapidly, an asset here. There are no sound effects or other enhancements, just comfortable reading. This is a fine book, appropriately presented. D.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPT 94]
