LOST AT SEA

by | Read by Michael Kramer

History • 9 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1998

Those who live by the sea know its toll. Bones of sailors and fishermen pave the depths. When crabbers from Anacortes, Washington, go to the Bering Straits, these perils are tripled. The 1983 wreck of two such ships is documented here in details ranging from the technical, to the social and legal. While truly fascinating, the book's dull approach cannot help but be reflected in its reading. Dillon's barrage of facts tends to submerge Kramer's considerable acting abilities. Occasional dialogues, as well as the testimonies given at the Congressional hearings, offer little opportunity for expression, and the narrative, though compelling, lacks the stuff of true audio enjoyment.
