Daniel Boone's exploration of pre-revolutionary America and the stories of his adventures in the wilderness make for some mighty-fine listening. The author includes lots of writings and legends about Boone to form a rich cache of information about life on the frontier in the mid-eighteenth century. Narrator James Jenner takes the approach of an epic storyteller, giving the words an almost-poetic treatment, suggested by the author's emotional narrative of expedition and risk. Jenner's sandy voice has a mature, avuncular tone just right for family entertainment; his relaxed pace fits a relaxing history much more compelling and memorable than the details of politics in those times. Robert Morgan's biography adapts perfectly to audio, and narrator Jenner gives it an endearing touch. J.A.H.
