After Richard Cypher saves a woman from assassins, she introduces herself as Kahlan Amnell. She has traveled from Westland, the border country, seeking a powerful Midland wizard to stop an evil ruler who wants to remove the magical boundary between their two countries (Midlands and Westland) and rule both with absolute power. Sam Tsoutsouvas's performance infuses this fantasy with realism. His bass vocals and emotional narration draw the listener into the story to witness the magic and mayhem. Masterful voice inflections distinguish the subtlest of character emotions—from melancholy to elation. In fact, performance quality helps sustain interest through several long passages of repetitive narrative.
