THE LANGUAGE OF OTHERS

From a young age, Jessica has been content only when she has space around her, unintruded upon by family or friends. She is now in her 40s and relatively at ease with her life. Her musings about how to make her adult son, Joel, more independent set her on a journey of self-discovery. Lorraine Coady captures Jessica's sense of wonder as she reviews her life and makes sense of it in new ways. Coady's narration is introspective, building on the interior monologue that forms the backbone of the book. Initially, it’s a bit difficult to distinguish between that internal monologue and Jessica's conversations and interactions with others; however, as the book progresses, it becomes easier.
