A PRIMARY SOURCE HISTORY OF THE COLONY OF NEW YORK

by | Read by Jay Snyder

Children Ages 10+ • 1 hr. • Unabridged • © 2006

New York's colonial history is clearly narrated for young students. The production's chronological structure helps overcome its lack of maps and illustrations. While the preponderance of dates and places makes for dense listening, narrator Jay Snyder maintains a slow, explanatory pace. He uses a strong voice and a consistent tone, and his voice is pleasant to hear, if dry. When primary sources are presented, he uses alternate voices. Overall, his authoritative narration matches the academic intent of this work. It’s difficult to enliven a laundry list of political history. But the production certainly succeeds in presenting a brief, clear account of New York's early years. C.A. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2009]
