McCready enlivens this short mystery with a brisk reading that harmonizes with the twins’ enthusiasm. He balances the sometimes-far-fetched story details with a realism that comes from crystal-clear characterizations—like that of their threatening guardian, Uncle Mike, whose presence is so scary that listeners will wonder if HE is the dog-snatching villain.
