Mixing both reenacted speeches of Socrates, Abraham Lincoln, and others with original speeches delivered by John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and others, this collection makes for an odd, albeit inspiring, selection of the spoken word. The original orators prove impressive, and so do the additional narrators, such as David Birney and Stephanie Beacham, who breathe new life and vibrancy into the older pieces. This collection is not exhaustive or definitive despite its grandiose title, and no real theme can be deduced. This edition includes the inaugural speech of President Barack Obama, which, while historically important, is still in contention as to whether it is one of the "greatest speeches" ever.
