MUKIWA A White Boy in Africa

by | Read by David Case

Biography & Memoir • 15 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1996

Godwin grew up in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in its last years of British rule. His parents were English (not Afrikaans), although he did not see England until he entered Cambridge. His memories of the experiences of childhood, adolescence, boarding school and the Rhodesian military are fresh and include many fascinating characters. David Case's cool British tones are a constant reminder of the former British colonial rule. Case's interpretation of characters is insightful; what's more, his British accent vanishes when he voices the native African characters, giving them the appropriate inflections. His grasp of the emotions of Godwin's life and experiences draws the listener into a fascinating look at a vanished time. M.A.M. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC/JAN 99]
