Tom Lawrence's narration can sometimes verge on the absurd, but his rollicking style suits this quirky story. He sounds appropriately angry when Tim and Flora wash the wrong BMW, enraging its owner, a clown, who turns out to be the entertainment at Tim's brother's birthday party. At the party, Lawrence brings to life the puppet show Tim and Flora produce to entertain the toddlers. Lawrence produces an admirable range of puppet characters, as well as humans, managing to sound worried and silly in all the right places. The story’s conversational first-person narrative translates well into audio. Whimsy and a pinch of madness combine to create a unique production.
