MONEY A Suicide Note

by | Read by Graeme Malcolm

Fiction • 15.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1985

Narrator Graeme Malcolm's reading, while slightly overdone, works well for the narrative of this 1980s comic novel. The story of hedonistic Englishman John Self, whose life revolves around sex, money, and alcohol, highlights the excesses of that decade. But when Malcolm portrays American characters (part of the story takes place in New York), his accent doesn't convince. What's worse—and ultimately what severely mars this audiobook—is the omission of an important two-paragraph introduction, which begins: "This is a suicide note." Without this brief text, the listener misses the point of the story. K.M. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2010]
