Narrator Kate Forbes shows her talent as she crafts voices for human, feline, and canine characters alike. She aptly portrays Mrs. Murphy, the gentle feline leader, with confident tones. Further, she reveals the depths of amateur sleuth Mary Minor "Harry" Harrison with emotion as she converses about her failed marriage, longtime friendships, and work as a small-town postmistress. At times, the story seems overloaded with facts about Monticello, horses, and veterinary medicine, but Forbes's smooth narrative style will keep the listener's attention.
