THE BEST BANDIT

Max Brand's amusing story of a swindle by a supposed tenderfoot upon a succession of crooked gamblers, cowboys and Mexican bandits makes for good listening. The opportunity for cheating Randall Dale is too good to pass up, and a hornet's nest of bad guys wants to get in on it. Barry Corbin starts the narration with a low-key, even restrained, approach but is drawn into the ruse much as the listener is. His pace is measured, and the story plays out at the same rate. Slight characterizations help to keep the players straight, but most of the dialogue is easy to follow. The short program offers a good introduction to the genre.
