THE ROPE SCHOOL

Llewellyn is known for his sailing mysteries--full of sea lore and high-seas adventure. He has turned his skills to a tale for the younger set and produced a gem. Set in 1813, the tale starts with thirteen-year-old Kate Griffith mistakenly taken into the "rope school," what the apprentices call the bottom rung of their training to be cadets aboard a British man-o-war. Imogen Stubbs is a good choice for narrator as the lightness of her voice for Kate adds to the intrigue of identities. She keeps pace with the action and projects an empathy for the characters.
