THE SANDS OF WINDEE

Australia's greatest detective, Napoleon ("Bony") Bonaparte, is of aboriginal and European descent. He has Sherlock Holmes's interest in unusual and seemingly unsolvable crimes and Hercule Poirot's ego, charm and energy. When local authorities assume a missing man lost his life to the forces of nature in the Outback, Bony uses his ability to read the bush to learn that he was murdered. While written in 1931, the story has staying power, which listeners will miss if they're deterred by language and attitudes not politically correct by today's standards.
