SARAH BISHOP

by | Read by Cheryl Haas

Young Adult • 5.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1980

Finding peace and refuge in a wilderness cave during the Revolutionary War, 15-year-old Sarah hides herself from the British, who believe her a Rebel. Haas's innocent, sweet-soft voice readily matches the character and emotions of the youthful Sarah. She deftly portrays Sarah's quiet, emotional distance, brought about by suffering, as well as her moments of peace and joy. Haas seems to easily transform her voice into the deeper, masculine words of the young Mr. Morton, expertly providing substantially different intonation and speech pattern for his character. Delicately pronounced syllables and the measured pace of the narration provide easy listening to an enlivened reading of an enduring story. P.A.J. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 97]
