THE SCI-FI CHANNEL'S SEEING EAR THEATRE, VOLUME I

The Sci-Fi Channel's Web site features "Seeing Ear Theatre," downloadable RealAudio plays here collected into a delightful anthology. This is not bug-eyed monster fare, nor the comic-book-inspired silliness that other audio dramatists are spewing forth these days. These selections are imaginative adventures in time and space by some of the brightest lights in the genre. The most outstanding feature of this first volume is the writing. The performers, who include Peter Coyote, Mark Hamill and "Star Trek"'s Marina Sirtis, range from serviceable to excellent. Producer/director Brian Smith has given the selections an overall personality, a kind of "house sound"--distinct, attractive and reminiscent of the classic radio series of the '50's "X Minus One."
