BIG TWO-HEARTED RIVER

by | Read by Roger Stephens

Classics • 1.5 hrs. • Abridged • © 1925

Three vignettes feature Nick Adams, one of Hemingway's most colorful personalities, as the central character. Stephens's well-modulated voice seems inappropriate for the shocking battlefield descriptions filled with the dead and dying in the first story. He portrays a doctor's anguish and depression when his wife dies in the second short story. Stephen's melodic voice and dynamic descriptions capture the memorable fishing and camping experiences of the third story, "Big Two-Hearted River," often considered autobiographical. Anyone who enjoys outdoor experiences, especially fishing, will enjoy this listening experience. G.D.W. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/MAR 01]
