STEPHEN AMBROSE: Victory in Europe, May 1945

Part of a series of lectures given at the Smithsonian Institute, this discusses the Allied strategy used in WWII in Europe. Their goal being to end the war, the esteemed military commanders implemented a plan they clearly believed in. Ambrose, a bestselling author and noted historian, is deeply enmeshed in his subject. He calls the characters by their nicknames, sounding as if they're close friends. He reveals their personalities, relationships and foibles with humor. Taped before a live audience, the cassette contains typical pitfalls of that type of production: coughing, questions from the audience that cannot be heard, and somewhat uneven volume and pace.
