There’s no doubt that this audio production is a grand introduction to Edgar Allan Poe’s work for students or young adults. Fortunately, it’s also an excellent collectible for established fans of Poe’s phantasmagoric thrillers. The St. Charles Players are composed of six performers, one of whom even goes by the name of Allan Poe! They superbly recreate the feel of exciting family radio drama in their presentations of such classic Poe tales as “The Gold Bug,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Tell-tale Heart” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.” Complete with eerie sound effects and echoing voices that give the feel of theatrical depth, this collection is a rare find.
